About Me…

Hi there….I’m Jackie Fraser-Dunfield and this is a bit about who I am… 🙂

Cooking has always been a passion for me and when my kids were young, I enjoyed spending Sundays going through my cookbooks and planning out a delicous Sunday meal.

I found my love for cooking with my mother while spending time in the kitchen watching her work magic with her wooden spoons. She was never without the ‘Joy of Cooking’ book, which she referred to for any new meal.

Always clad in one of her colourful aprons and a wooden spoon in hand, she would cook up wonderful meals….never to disapoint. Coming to Canada from Scotland, my mother never strayed far from the traditional Scottish foods in the beginning…..memorable dishes I love to this day!

The ‘Joy of Cooking’ was one of the first gifts my mother gave to me, as I ventured out on my own as a young woman.

Ahhhhh….the memories of our mothers in the kitchen…I hope I never forget them.

For the past 27 years, I have owned an operated a home health care service for seniors. It continues to be a fulfilling and rewarding career and helping our seniors remain in their home is a pleasure. We will all be seniors one day…and I certainly want someone to be taking care of me in my golden years 🙂

Two years ago, after an ordeal in my business, I self-published a memoir about the financial abuse of seniors. An unpleasant, but all to real topic. You can check it out  ‘Caregiver or Taker’…the faces of betrayal.

My husband and I planned our first trip to Jamaica in 1995, and have traveled back every year since then…sometimes twice a year. We have fallen in love with the Jamaican people, the land and the vibe of the island.  Jamaica became our ‘home away from home.’

Back in 2008, I had purchased my first DSLR camera and took a keen interest in photography.  That also turned into taking photos of my kitchen creations.  I was inspired by islands.

It was during these trips that I found my love for Caribbean cooking.  Brown stews, curried goat, pumpkin soups, jerk chicken and many more of the islands wonderfully spiced creations.  Cooking Jamaican style had become common place in our home.

Now Fast forward to 2016.

After years of honing my photography skills, I now specialize and freelance in Food Photography and Styling.  Being a home cook, I have worked hard at developing my skills of creating dishes, practicing creative styling and capturing appealing plating through my lens.

Working as a freelance photography with food magazines and publications has been rewarding.  Jamaican Eats and Cooking Sense are top notch, Caribbean inspired magazines bringing the tastes of the islands to your home.
