One of our favorite snacks around Christmas time are ‘Bits and Bites…or as some call it ‘Snack Mix‘. There is a basic recipe that many follow on the side of the shreddies or crispix box, but to spice it up and kick it up a notch, I have added some wonderful Jerk Spice from Jamaica.
It’s great to have around the holiday season, and it’s always nice to give a can or two away to family and friends.
3 cups of shreddies
3 cups of crispix
1 cups pretzels, your choice of shapes
1 1/2 cups mixed nuts ( or one can mixed nuts, take out the brazil nuts)
3 tbsp butter, melted
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp worchestershire sauce
1/2 tsp garlic salt or powder
1/12 tsp onion salt
2 – 3 tsps powdered Maggi Season Up Jerk spice ( depending on your tastes )
1/4 tsp of cayene pepper
Combine the cereal, nuts and pretzels and place on a cookie or baking sheet. Melt the butter and add the lemon and worchestershire sauce. Mix together all the dry spices in a bowl then add the butter.
Drizzle over the cereal mixture, gently tossing to coat all the cereal evenly. Bake at 300 degree F for approximately 30 – 40 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
Yeilds 8 cups. Enjoy this snack mix in the holiday Season!
